The South Oxhey Youth Choir is made up of children between the ages of 8 and 12 who attend schools or live in the South Oxhey area. The choir opened its doors to children from all the South Oxhey Primary Schools in years 5+6 in September 2008. To be invited to join you have to sing a song in front of the conductor - SCARY! All 80 members have sung on their own at some point which means they must be pretty brave.
Rehearsals last an hour and typically involve about 25 minutes of warming up and singing games. Some of our favourites include 'Danger Men at Work', 'Fifa La Vista' and 'The Scoobie Song' - if you don't know these songs then ask a child from the South Oxhey Youth Choir. But be warned: once they start singing them, they won't stop for several hours.
We work hard to get a good solid tone and to make sure everybody is singing in a healthy way - NO SHOUTING ALLOWED (or aloud). Listening to each other is one of the key skills we've been learning.
We'd love to tell you more about it but we're sorry to say that the songs that we have been singing are a closely guarded secret. You'll have to come to see us perform to find out what we've been up to....
